MATHEMATICSIn seventh grade, students are enrolled in Pre-Algebra. Using applied mathematical reasoning and computational skills, students work independently and collaboratively to solve problems related to the following topics: Linear Relationships; Two- and Three-Dimensional Geometry; Similarity; Ratios, Rates, Percents, and Proportions; Integers and Rational Numbers; Probability; and Data and Statistics.
In eighth grade, students are enrolled in Algebra I – the foundation of all higher courses in mathematics. In this course, students will learn to define and apply mathematical equations to represent common patterns they see in their every day lives. Some of the topics covered by Algebra I include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios.
Both Pre-Algebra and Algebra I are divided into two ability groups: academic and honors. Math placement is determined by student performance on standardized and local assessments, as well as teacher recommendations.
